Director/Screenwriter Natja Brunckhorst will join us for a very special in-cinema virtual Q&A following the film.
Halberstadt, summer 1990: a group of clever East Germans seizes the chaotic post-GDR era to retrieve hidden millions from an underground vault. As they outsmart formidable opponents, the heist takes an unexpected turn when money officially unrecognized in the GDR circulates and they have six days to exchange their old currency for new Deutschmarks as part of Germany’s reunification effort. Directed by Natja Brunckhorst and featuring Academy Award-nominated Sandra Hüller (‘Anatomy of a Fall,’ ‘Toni Erdmann’), alongside Max Riemelt (‘Sense 8’) and Ronald Zehrfeld (‘Barbara,’ ‘Phoenix’), this historical comedy is based on a true story.
About Natja Brunckhorst: Natja Brunckhorst was introduced to cinema audiences as the lead in Uli Edel’s “Christiane F. – Wir Kinder vom Bahnhof Zoo” (1981), followed by Rainer Werner Fassbinder’s “Querelle” (1982), and Tom Tykwer’s “The Princess and the Warrior” (2000). “Two to One” (2024) is her second directorial feature, following “Alles in bester Ordnung” (2021), both of which she also wrote the screenplays for.
From the 41st Filmfest München, where the film held its World Premiere as the opening film this past summer: “This second feature film by director Natja Brunckhorst questions the mechanisms of capitalism while demonstrating a sense of solidarity and perfect comedic timing.”
This feature film is prceded by the projection of the 2024 Student Academy Award-winning short film “Crust.”
