The Berlin & Beyond Film Festival, with the support and collaboration of the Goethe-Institut San Francisco and the Special Projects and Unexpected Needs (SPUN) grant of Grants for the Arts, presented the virtual film festival Berlin & Beyond in Focus, November 19-21, 2020.
This special program commemorated the heritage of Berlin & Beyond, and its relevance and resonance with German cinema. This free virtual festival and forum kicked off Berlin & Beyond’s 25th Anniversary Season, ahead of the main 25th Berlin & Beyond Film Festival, slated for April 29 – May 4, 2021.
Berlin & Beyond in Focus brought together engaging, educational, and entertaining programs of dialogue, film and interactivity in the virtual sphere. All films were viewable in all nine Bay Area counties: San Francisco, Alameda, Contra Costa, San Mateo, Marin, Santa Clara, Napa, Sonoma, and Solano. Select films were also available for the State of California and the US.
Programming for Berlin & Beyond in Focus continues the festival’s endeavor to present the best of contemporary cinema from German-speaking countries. This series comprised of 10 feature-length films that were available in the scheduled virtual cinema format with live Q&As or as an on-demand movie. The series was also highlighted with engaging panels and community conversations.
